As someone who feels that combating climate change is absolutely critical to maintain and improve our standard of living in the future, I initially viewed Canada's carbon tax as a commendable system to help accomplish this. However, due to the mounting negative sentiment and the complexity of the system, I now believe that we need to shift our strategy. Instead of relying on a consumer-level scheme that mixes incentives and penalties—often resulting in confusion—it might be more effective to foster a system that straightforwardly encourages technological and infrastructure investments to reduce the impact of climate change.
